The Bauhaus School
   -The teaching of modern architecture
Modernist architecture generally used materials like reinforced concrete, lots of glass, and tubular steel in the effort to create buildings different from any thing ever built.
"Bauhaus buildings have flat roofs, smooth  faades and cubic shapes. Colors are white, gray, beige or black. Floor plans are open and furniture is functional."

Mart Stam's Weissenhof Siedlung houses: Flat roof, use of pipe railing, whitwashed walls, combination of different materials and shapes.
Like other modernists, architects associated with Bauhaus strove to "make it new."  They combined classical styles with modern technology to create economically feasible, and aestically pleaseing buildings.  Also, every detail mattered, and functional items were incorporated into the design.  Similar to modern art, Bauhaus style many times featured sharp angles and a mixing of common shapes.
Building from the Dessau Bauhaus campus: Heavy use of glass, reinforced concrete.
