The Bauhaus School
   Influence on Architecture

Function over Form
The Bauhaus strived to combine art and technically excellent craftsmanship.  Applied  to architecture, the basic goal is to provide functional and aestically pleasing buildings for the masses.
Dessau Campus (1925-1933), designed by Gropius
-Founded by the architect Walter Gropius (1919)
-Located in Germany from 1919 through 1933
-Taught using workshop method; students participated in the learning

-"Gropius directed the school's design efforts toward mass manufacture. On the example of Gropius' ideal, modern designers have since thought in terms of producing functional and aesthetically pleasing objects for mass society rather than individual items for a wealthy elite."
