The award is named in honor of Colonel Fred Walker and
Captain Lynda Ewing.
Colonel Fred W. Walker 1942-90 USAF. Retired, was the
first Chief of the Psychological Operations Directorate, , J-9, United States Special
Operations Command. The late Colonel Walker was a pilot and past Chief, PSYOP Division,
Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Washington, D.C. Additionally, he was an author
and speaker on Special Operations throughout the Department of Defense and a recipient of
the General Stilwell Award.
Captain Lynn Ewing was a brilliant young reservist whose
life was cut short by leukemia. During her military career, Captain Ewing participated in
many NATO exercises and contributed numerous articles for publication on PSYOP and other
military topics.
In remembrance of these two PSYOP professionals, the
Walker-Ewing Award is presented to junior enlisted personnel and officers who have
contributed significantly to the PSYOP Community and profession during the past year.
Members may nominate one or more individuals for this award. Nominees must be
junior officers or enlisted personnel who have made a substantial contribution to PSYOP.
