General Stilwell Award
The award is named for General Richard G. Stilwell, USA,
Retired, (1917-1991) who is known as the father of the rebirth of Psychological Operations
during the late 1980's.
General Stilwell served in a number of key military and
civilians throughout his professional life. He was Commandant of Cadets at the US
Military Academy, Commander of the 1st Armored Division and the 24th Army Corps, Vietnam
and Chief of Staff for General Westmoreland. As a civilian, the late General
Stilwell served as Under Secretary of Defense for Policy and Chairman of the DOD Security
Review Commission.
In his honor, the Psychological Operations Association
awards the General Stilwell Award annually to an individual for outstanding career
achievements and contributions to the field of Psychological Operations. Members may
nominate one individual for this award.
