This page contains a list of programs in Zip* file format that you can download and install on your computer to facilitate creating your own missions for
Command & Conquer: Red Alert. As I come across more quality programs, I will add to this list so check back here regularly to browse through any new additions.

Red Alert Construction Kit - Version 1, Beta 4
Known as RACK for short. I think this is a great little program for second phase mission creation, i.e., first phase - creating the map, second phase - placing units and buildings on the map, third phase - creating triggers and teamtypes (see
Single Player Mission Creation Guide for details on triggers and teamtypes). Initially I had some problems with this program frequently crashing on me, seemingly if I worked too fast (although I'm not sure if that was the real reason). This was all fixed however after I located
Vb40032.dll on the internet and placed it in the RACK directory (see below.) RACK requires that you have the Red Alert installation CD as it will need to extract some game files in order to install and run properly. (File size - 573K)
vb40032.zip
This is a Visual Basic Runtime *.dll file that you'll probably need in order to properly run the
Red Alert Construction Kit, otherwise known as RACK (see above.) If you downloaded and installed RACK then download this file, unzip it and copy
vb40032.dll into the directory where RACK is installed. (File size - 378K)
RA-MIXer 5.1, Official Release 3
Some don't like the DOS interface but I personally think this is an excellent program that will enable you to explore Red Alert *.mix files. MIX files are Red Alert game files which compile other files containing everything from soundtracks, graphics, mission files, palettes, and other MIX files. To the serious mod-maker, a 'mix manager' is indispensable. To the novice mission maker, RA-MIXer can be used to extract all or any one of the Soviet and Allied mission files that together make up the campaigns in the game (these are located in the game file called
general.mix.) Once these are extracted, they will be in *.ini file format and can then be opened in a text editor and studied for valuable tips and tricks on how to create quality missions. This package also contains several programs that can convert Red Alert audio, graphic and palette file formats into more standard file formats and back again. (File size - 352K)
RApower 1.00
This is a great Windows-based program that will instantly calculate and tell you how much power the bases that you have built into your mission maps have and how much power they require to run. It will then compile these two figures to give you a final result representing either a power surplus (+) or power deficit (-). This is particularly useful to make sure that the enemy base that you have constructed doesn't become a pushover after the would-be player has destroyed a single power plant thus putting the base on low power and putting base defenses offline. When calculating total power, it will also take into account any alterations to power consumption/production values that you have made in the
rules.ini file. (File size - 281K)
