7. Harm Reduction and Levels of Drug Use * A course designed for workers at all tiers looking at harm reduction with experimental and recreational drug users, aiming to prevent use becoming problematic. This course will enable participants to: � Identify and assess stages of substance use � Deliver health promotion and harm reduction messages in all face to face interactions � Explore the concept of different drug group actions on the brain � Develop local campaigns or products to promote safer substance use DANOS units supported by Harm Reduction and Levels of Drug Use training: AA1 Recognise indications of substance misuse and refer individuals to specialists AA2 Relate to, and interact with, individuals AA3 Support individuals to access and use services and facilities AA6 Promote choice, well-being and the protection of all individuals AB2 Support individuals who are substance users AB5 Assess and act upon immediate risk of danger to substance users AC1 Reflect on and develop your practice AD1 Raise awareness about substances, their use and effects AD2 Facilitate learning through presentations and activities AD3 Facilitate group learning AD4 Develop and disseminate information and advice about substance use, health and social well-being AH4 Support individuals to undertake and monitor their own health care Date: 11th April 2006 Cost: �95 Venue: Hub Hazelwell Trainer: Nick Shough 8. Preventing Overdose and Promoting Treatment * Designed for anyone who works with opiate users aiming to reduce the unnecessary rate of overdose through harm reduction and peer education strategies and looking at opportunities to promote drug treatment options. This course will enable participants to: � Understand the connection between tolerance and overdose risk � Advise service users on overdose risks and promote peer education � Teach the recovery position � Dispel myths and fears of contacting emergency services � Raise awareness of different treatment options DANOS units supported by Preventing Overdose and Promoting Treatment training: AA1 Recognise indications of substance misuse and refer individuals to specialists AA2 Relate to, and interact with, individuals AA3 Support individuals to access and use services and facilities AA4 Promote the equality, diversity, rights and responsibilities of individuals AA6 Promote choice, well-being and the protection of all individuals AB2 Support individuals who are substance users AB5 Assess and act upon immediate risk of danger to substance users AC1 Reflect on and develop your practice AD1 Raise awareness about substances, their use and effects AD2 Facilitate learning through presentations and activities AD3 Facilitate group learning AD4 Develop and disseminate information and advice about substance use, health and social well-being AH4 Support individuals to undertake and monitor their own health care AH7 Support individuals through detoxification programmes Date: 12th APRIL 2006 Cost: �95 Venue: Hub Hazelwell Trainer: Nick Shough *Book a place on all three harm reduction courses to receive a 5% discount |
