5. Media Communications

This course is designed for service managers and commissioners who have responsibility for dealing with press and media, who want to develop skills for working effectively with the media. Participants will have an opportunity to visit the BBC studios at the mailbox.
This course will enable participants to:
� Understand different types of media and the difference between news and features
� Prepare a press release
� Identify specialist and local media
� Practise interview techniques
� Prepare for managing crisis situations
� Manage relationships with journalists

DANOS units supported by Media Communications training:
AA4 Promote the equality, diversity, rights and responsibilities of individuals
AC1 Reflect on and develop your practice
AC2 Make use of supervision
AC3 Contribute to the development of the knowledge and practice of others
AC4 Support and challenge workers on specific aspects of their practice

BB2 Establish, maintain and use relationships with the media to explain and promote the organisation and its work.
BC4 Assure your organisation delivers quality services

6. Alcohol Awareness and Safer Drinking

At a time when binge drinking and licensing hours are in the media headlines, a  course for anyone working in primary care or drug treatment services.

This course will enable participants to:
� Consider the  recent rise in alcohol consumption in the UK and reasons for that
� Recognise levels and risks of alcohol use and respond accordingly
� Give advice and information on alcohol units, sensible drinking and harm reduction
� Understand models of treatment and develop intervention skills

DANOS units supported by Alcohol Awareness and Safer Drinking training:
AA1 Recognise indications of substance misuse and refer individuals to specialists
AA3 Support individuals to access and use services and facilities
AB2 Support individuals who are substance users
AC1 Reflect on and develop your practice
AD1 Raise awareness about substances, their use and effects
AG2 Contribute to care planning and review
