3. Assessment, Interventions and Care Planning

This course is for workers that are new to the drug and alcohol treatment field that want to develop their assessment and care planning skills.

This course will enable participants to:
� Understand the principles of the four tiered approach
� Conduct comprehensive assessments of risk and need
� Provide brief interventions in a harm reduction context
� Understand the theory and practice of care planning and the principles of effective care co-ordination

DANOS units supported by Assessment, Interventions and Care Planning training:
AA1 Recognise indications of substance misuse and refer individuals to specialists
AB2 Support individuals who are substance users
AB5 Assess and act upon immediate risk of danger to substance users
AC1 Reflect on and develop your practice
AD1 Raise awareness about substances, their use and effects
AF1 Carry out screening and referral assessment
AF2 Carry out assessment to identify and prioritise needs
AF3 Carry out comprehensive substance misuse assessment
AG1 Develop, implement and review care plans for individuals
AG2 Contribute to care planning and review
AI2 Help individuals address their substance use through an action plan

4. Up In Smoke: Young People and Cannabis

Rolling through the years: everything you thought you should know about cannabis but were afraid to ask. This course is aimed at workers who engage with young cannabis users in drug and alcohol treatment settings. The course will provide comprehensive information on cannabis, it�s use and re-classification.

This course will enable participants to:
� Examine the history and prohibition of cannabis in society
� Identify the risks and assess the health needs of cannabis users
� Explore approaches to cannabis use and appropriate harm reduction
