    Design Committee
The main focus of this group is to influence the look of Main Street so that it reflects Portland's unique heritage. There has to be a concerted efforts among the businesses on Main Street to project a particular atmosphere that will be conducive to attracting local and out-of-town customers to come and shop on Main Street. We need to emulate, perhaps, the success of some other touristy New England towns that line the Connecticut River. An architectural and signage "theme" might express Portland's maritime history, or perhaps a nineteenth century village square. The important thing is that local businesses work together in making this happen. The Design Committee can help in coordinating a chosen theme, suggesting logos or signage, and influencing landscaping and renovations. We are especially looking for architects, landscapers, interior decorators, graphic artists, sign painters, contractors, historians, business owners, and anyone who wants to share his or her creative energies for a good cause.
