8/5/2004 Project is underway, I've worked through a few MS Access tables and how to structure the tax tables so they are easily maintainable through manual or automated methods. The GUI/program screens are underway also with one main form from which all functions can be accessed. Here is a brief look:

8/5/2004 Began tracking time, I guess so far 3 hours but that is probably on the light side. I'm using Time Stamp to record time and cost ($25 hr lol - I'm not paying myself!). I downloaded this program years ago and saved it. I'm not sure if the link provided will download the same as what I have but I do recognize the product from the screen shot shown.
8/6/2004 Developing logic for tax table input first - need some tax tables to do computations so it seems like a logical place to begin.
8/6/2004 Learning ADO.NET to handle database operations; 8.5 hours logged
8/8/2004 Completed ADO.NET learning experience.
8/9/2004 17.5 hours
8/15/2004 25 hours, primarily working on graphic interface

8/16/2004 A few tasks tackled include tooltips, listview, framework application event log, ado; 33 hours logged to date
8/24/2004 44.5 hrs, most of the interface/forms are fairly ready except reporting
8/27/2004 47 hrs, ran into a disappointment; crystal reports is not included in the standard vb.net install, it is $195
8/28/2004 looks like I might need to shift gears to develop a reporting module if I cannot find any provisions with .net standard reporting features available.
8/28/2004 unable to use a combination of crystal reports 4.5 delivered with vb 5.0 with ms access 2000 databases. Reviewing other reporting considerations - Generating Reports in the .NET Framework . Looks like my best option is to code my own version of reporting.
8/29/2004 47.75 hours, I haven't been tracking time tightly this weekend, in fact looking at my numbers I have not turned on timestamp at all. This is a good break point to re-evaulate and be sure of where the reporting pieces are heading. I tend to like the idea of writing my own reporting interface with the idea that the software user can define and build their own reports! I'm slowly liking the idea but not completely convinced as of yet.

9/9/2004 Developing a report generator, no additional time or progress will be logged here until that project is complete. The report interface will be a key component of payroll.

9/18/2004 Taking a break from the reporting component. Working on changing data in the forms and updating. 55.5 hours recorded

9/19/2004 Writing data save routines, an audit record is generated for every change in the ms access file. Based on audit records, updates are made to the db when requested. This function would permit "resynchronizing or simple rebuilding" a database just by looking at the audit records. Audit records are also generated on logging in and viewing employee information. 59 hours

The following was located in vbdotnetheaven regarding automation of a W2 form:

3/20/2005 Have taken a LOONNNNNGGGGG break from programming and this project, slowly becoming an interest again - this stuff takes a lot of work!

4/2/2005 Getting bogged down with adodbrpt reporting development and have decided on a simpler approach, one less time consuming and an easier report development process - EZReporting.

7/8/2005 Currently in a phase of very little interest in completing this project. This reality hits me at times especially when your career is in the same field!

7/6/2008 Project has not been completed, code left as is, waiting for interested party or co-developing local programmer to assist completion.

Thoughts...

Documention within my own thinking is best on a hard drive/local computer (not shared on the internet). This is something a little bit different in that I'd like to share this projects history on the internet... maybe someone out there will run into this web site and show an interest in using it within their daily company operations.
