The Trombone Section

A Trombone, unlike any other instrument in the band, has a slide, instead of a valve. Which is totally different from every other instrument in the band. So, often we have to depend on ourselves when we have any problems on hand.

Our section is divided into the 1st Trombone, 2nd Trombone and 3rd Trombone. Each individual part has its own types of trombones. The 1st Trombones have 2 instruments, one to be used by the Section Leader only, and one to be used by the other player. The same goes for the 2nd and 3rd Trombone.

Other than the weekly band practice, we make it a point to organise sectionals, so that we will be ready for each combine practice. During sectionals, Section Leader coaches the weaker players, and help improve on the other section member’s playing. In our section, we correct each other’s mistakes, so as to not let us be so dependent on our Section Leader. In our section, we not only focus on our playing, but also, on our discipline. Punishments are implemented when needed.

We make it a point to organise section gatherings every year. As our section emphasises on section unity, we have section gatherings to allow the section to know each other better. There are at least 2 section outings, and a section chalet at the end of the year. One section outing is held during the June holidays, while the other section outing is held on the 8th of August, when the band performs with the graduating batch for the final time and when all the posts are passed down. The section outings are to allow the seniors to get a chance to know the Sec.1s better. The section chalet that we organise yearly, is a time when the previous trombone players and the present trombone players gather.

There certainly will be difficulties when learning an instrument. However, only through perseverance, determination and hard work, then success can be attained.
