Brownstown Owners And Tenants Association

BOATA Committee 2001

Chairperson: Gordon Blevins

Vice-Chair: Tommy Breen

Secretary: Michael Hendron

Treasurer: Margaret Blevins

Committee members:

Annette Hall                        Gwen Forde

Jim Hamilton                       Mossie Buchannon

Bill Richardson

Brownstown Owners And Tenants Association (BOATA) was first formed in 1982 because the NIHE were doing repairs to houses within the Brownstown Estate, which the residents were not happy about.

The first BOATA committee included the following residents:

Chair: Gordon Blevins, Secretary: Movita Adams, Treasurer: Alfie McConnell, Committee members: Kenny Gilmore, Sam Hill, Mossie Buchannon, Isabel Buchannon, Margaret Blevins, Gwen Forde, Lile Hammond, Nan Woods.

The current committee hope to open a community office/base in the Brownstown area very soon. We are currently in talks with the NIHE and have been offered 41a Ranfurley Road. If there are no objections from neighbors or residents the committee hope to officially open the office in 2002.

We hope to employ both part-time and full-time staff, who we would hope are from the local area. The office will, hopefully, be equipped with P.C, photocopier, fax, and email all of which will be made available to the public, where the staff will be able to help with letters, c.v’s etc.

There will be regular visits to the office from statutory bodies i.e. NIHE, CBC, elected representatives, DRD, Health & Welfare and different benefit bodies. This is so the residents can have the opportunity to meet with the relevant people in person. If anybody has any other suggestions for the community base please contact a committee member.
