Music has always been an important part of my life. My beloved late grandmother was a classical pianist and her sister was an opera singer in pre-World War 2 Europe. I love all types of music, but I especially like opera and classical music. We also listen to easy listening, pop and country music.
A few weeks ago, we were privileged to have seen a concert on PBS
by a blind Italian tenor named Andrea
Bocelli. He is truly inspirational. He even rides a horse! He has an
incredible operatic tenor's voice, but he made his name singing popular
songs in his native Italy. The last song of his concert was a duet with
British soprano Sarah
Brightman.
She was married to Sir
Andrew Lloyd Webber until 1990 and is best remembered for her critically
acclaimed portrayal of Christine in the Phantom
of the Opera. Their duet
Time to Say Goodbye is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've
ever heard. Her CD Time
to Say Goodbye is also one of the best albums I've ever heard; each
song is more enchanting than the previous one. I have been listening to
it almost continuously for the last 3 weeks. Her Sarah
Brightman Sings Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber is another of my all time
favorites. It is hard to believe that with a voice like that she has been
studying opera for only 2 years now. I found several great web sites devoted
to her: The Official Sarah Brightman
Site, Premiere
Sarah Brightman Web Page, and The
Unexpected Forum: Sarah Brightman's Official Website. They are full
of interesting information and is well worth a look. These CDs can be purchased
through CD Now by clicking

titles and graphics.
PBS recently televised Andrew Lloyd Webber's 50 th birthday celebration at Royal Albert Hall in London. It was by far the best concert I have ever seen! It featured such diverse talents as Donny Osmond, Sarah Brightman, Bonnie Tyler, Elaine Paige, Kiri Te Kenawa, Antonio Banderas, Glenn Close and Michael Ball. I purchased it through Amazon.com and have almost worn it out, playing it over and over. The title of the video is called Andrew Lloyd Webber : The Royal Albert Hall Celebration. You can purchase it as well by clicking on the link!
Russell Watson recently appeared on
Good
Morning America on abc TV and absolutely blew away the studio
and television audience with his operatic tenor voice. The 27 year old
Watson hails from Salford in Northwest England, and until 2 years ago was
a factory worker. He was discovered in a kareoke bar and the rest is as
they say, history. His debut album, The
Voice, has shattered records all over the world. The amazing thing
about him is the fact that as a child he never even sang in the church
choir. In an interview, Russell revealed that as a child he would never
had dreamed he would be an operatic tenor singing to tens of thousands
at huge stadiums, but rather a fireman.
Josh Groban appeared on the Ally McBeal television show last season as a shy high school student that had to be persuaded by Ally to sing at his high school prom. He blew everyone away with his voice! His debut album comes out November 20, 2001. It is certain to soar to the top of the charts! This 19 year old has the goods to deliver.
My favorite opera tenors are the 3 Tenors: Jose Carreras, Placido Domingo, and Luciano Pavarotti. Kiri Te Kenawa is my favorite soprano. She sang at Charles and Diana's wedding and has a glorious voice! The soprano response to the tenors, the 3 Sopranos is magnificent and well worth purchasing.
I enjoy pop music as well, and my favorite artists are: Neil Diamond, John Denver, Elton John, Celine Dion, and Barbra Streisand.
There are several sountracks that we found to be particularly
good. these include: Last
of the Mohicans, Somewhere
in Time, Ghost,
Out
of Africa, and Titanic.
