| Book Club Report Hello fellow readers This is a rather sad Book Club report this month, as I have decided to resign as co-chair in order to focus on my duties as Neighborhood Board President. Ive enjoyed my time serving with Julia, and when she and I founded our little discussion group I certainly never envisioned what it would become. And for that I have you to thank. Unfortunately, the past few months have been hard on Del Roca household, mostly due to my time commitments to the Book Club, to running the Caring Wishes Foundation, and most of all to serving you, the good people of Pine Oaks. And so after trying to juggle so many small beanbags of life, I decided that I would step down from my position of leadership in the Book Club. I still plan on being an active member, both hosting and leading discussions, however the administrative duties became too great. I will leave the decision on whether to replace me as co-chair or lead the group on her own up to Julia, but I know that you are in good hands either way. So allow me to reflect, if I may, on our time together, me as your co-leader, you as the people I co-led. I remember it started some three years ago, when Julia Schaun and I found ourselves at the old Viscounts Discount Books, which used to be where Delgados Womany Hat store is now. Anyway, I remember we were each perusing through the contemporary fiction section; I had just picked up a copy of These Boots Were Made for Murder, while I believe Julia had her eye on a James Michener - Volcano I think it was, which I had read several months prior and liked immensely, except towards the end, which dragged a bit after the grandson, Peter, built a third house inside the volcano. Whats that phrase Tony Daniels used? Spoiler alert! But anyway, I remember a young man, it may have been Viscount Rob himself, began to engage us in conversation. It was such a stimulating encounter that Julia and I decided then and there to start a book club. And the ensuing three years have been just like that, full of interesting discussions and good times. Im going to miss co-leading each and every one of you, though as I said Ill still see you at the meetings. Yours in reading (one last co-time), Barbara Del Roca, Pine Oaks Book Club Co-Chair (Ret.) |
