about DISEASES
Tuberculosis
Tuberculosis
is a disease caused by the bacteria “Mycobaterium
tuberculosis”. A major cause of death among infectious
diseases, tuberculosis is found throughout the world. Although
the disease has a long history (early medical documents
described it a phthisis, or consumption), modern medical
Knowledge of the disorder was not acquired until the 19th
century. It was then that lung tuberculosis, skin tuberculosis,
and tuberculosis of the lymph glands of the neck were
established as different manifestations of the same disease,
the tubercle bacillus was isolated, and tuberculosis of birds
and cattle was recognized.
