ALBUM SECRETS
"IS NOTHING SACRED"
- Many of the songs on 'Is Nothing Sacred?' were written years ealier, but saved for this album. The sequence of songs was set before 'The Ritual' was recorded, and many of them were performed at the Olomana Ranch concert.
- To achieve as big a sound as 'The Ritual', Pierre Grille set up a large PA system in the parking lot, played the master tape at a very high volume against a large brick wall with mikes set up all over the place, and added that to the mix-down. Genius!
- 'I've Seen The Wizard' was recorded with Robbie Littlejohn for SR's debut Lp, but when the vocal tracks were replaced, the song was dropped from the album.
- 'I will Survive' was a long-time favorite among the fans in Hawaii.
- For 'Eleanor Rigby', PC and MK transcribed and played the string parts from the original song on keyboards - PC taking the higher parts, and MK taking the lower.
- 'The Last Rites' was considered by the band to be SR's masterpiece. Listen closely for creepy whispering behind the vocal part in the quiet section.
- The surprise gong at the end of 'The Last Rites' was inspired by Queen's 'The Prophet Song', from 'A Night At The Opera'. If you haven't heard this album because you think Queen is wimpy - BUY IT!!!
- 'As It Was Told' was recorded twice before this version, but never sounded right. It was when MK layered several guitar parts that the song finally had some guts. Listen for birds chirping in the quiet parts. We did that with the keyboard, too.
