ALBUM SECRETS
"SACRED RITE"
- The boys recorded 'Sacred Rite' when they were just 17 years old.
- The album was originally recorded with vocalist Robbie Littlejohn, but his tracks had to be scrapped. MK replaced them at the last minute.
- Pierre Grille is a 6' 9" Frank Zappa lookalike, with a thick French accent, and he smokes on the piano!
- At the time, Rendezvous Studio was so small that KL's drum set took up every inch of space; the rest of the band had to cram into the vocal booth.
- 'Angels Never Die' was originally a 'boy-girl' song that PC wrote about JD's sister, Angel (it was puppy love!). The band found the lyrics too sappy, so the song was changed.
- 'White Boy' was only put on the album to appease JD's older, disco-loving brother. SR would like to apologise to everyone else.
- If you listen closely to the intro of R.I.P., you can hear the tapping of a hammer. We wanted to create the haunting
ambiance of a crucifixion (listen to the ending of Jesus Christ Superstar), so we pounded some nails into a 2x4 and miked it. Pretty cool, huh?
- Every high-school aged metal band wanted to end their first album with a big explosion, but we actually did!
- There were only 1000 copies made of the the original pressing with the black-and-white jacket. When the band liscensed the album to Axe Killer, the record company wanted a more colorful album cover. SR hired a friend to do a painting inspired by 'Wings of Pegasus', but as the deadline drew near, no one in the band had seen the artwork yet. When they finally did, they weren't happy with it, but it was too late. Today, the original pressing with the black-and-white jacket is a Heavy-Metal collectors item, and has been seen in shops around the world for as much as $100!
