Then
the Voice gave another command:
"Let Land produce vegetation."
And
suddenly the rich, black soil gave birth,
Its tender green offspring shooting skyward,
Growing,
Lengthening,
Deepening in color,
Until the whole world was a lush, green carpet.
And again
the Voice spoke:
"Let the plants bear seed,
And let the trees bear fruit with seed,
And let each multiply,
Each after its own kind."
And before
my eyes,
The world burst forth in color:
the white narcissus
the pink apple
blossom
the red rose
the orange lilly
the yellow buttercup
the green mosses
the blue cineraria
the lavender
orchid
the purple petunia
the black
banana flower;
A rainbow of color before my eyes.
And the Dancer raised His cloak once more,
Shading the beauty from my sight.
And when He lowered it once more,
The morning announced the Third Day. |
