I was born and raised in Flushing, Long Island, New York. Since home computers hadn't yet been invented when I was in high school, I had to settle for amateur radio as a hobby.
I attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where I graduated with a degree in Management Engineering. While at RPI, I met Joyce, who was attending State University of New York at Albany. We married after we both graduated, and I embarked on a three year career in the US Army Signal Corps in Germany. After another year at RPI where I got my Masters, we moved to the Boston area. We lived in Acton, Massachusetts from 1968 to 2002 where we raised two sons: Michael and Andrew.
I've worked in the high-tech industry in both commercial and government environments at Raytheon, Digital Equipment Corp., and Computer Sciences Corp. Before I retired in 1999, I specialized in computer networking, first in electronic mail and directories, and then in Windows NT, Microsoft's networking operating system. I completed the testing requirements for Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE).
We sold our Massachusetts home in October 2002 and moved to the farm. Joyce grew up here with her parents, Frank and Mary Cottone, and two brothers Ross and Vincent.
I am interested in personal computing, photography, and square dancing. We belong to the Schoharie Valley Hayshakers square dance club.
This web page was originally created with Microsoft's FrontPage Express, and now maintained using Adobe PageMill. The pictures were taken with various cameras including the early Epson PhotoPC (c. 1995), the Intel Pocket PC camera, and the Fuji FinePix S5000a,d now the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 camera. I edit the pictures using Irfanview to size the pictures generally to 320 X 240 pixels which results in image files only 30K - 50K in size for fast loading and display.
