INTRODUCTION
www.freebiephones.co.uk/
Welcome to my site about music! Before I start my introduction, I must say that I'm never one to read introductions of any sort because I find them tedious and useless so if you are like me, I don't recommend reading this. I tried to cover a variety of topics concerning music so that my site would interest the majority of its visitors in some way or another. The site includes information about why music is essential, influences of music and other art forms on society, the baroque era, famous composers such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky, why I consider downloading music to be a crime, rock music, movie music and much more. Also, thanks goes to the many sources I used for information, ideas, html help and pictures. Please view the disclaimer to see my sources. So stay awhile and learn more about music and its effect on today's society. Site is best viewed on F11 and if required, go to "view" and "text size" until size of items on page appear as desired. Thank you and enjoy!

ESSENTIALITY (of music)

Not all of us play musical instruments, have our own band, can sing like those on American Idol, or are even musically inclined. However, I'm sure that the majority of the population appreciates music in some way, shape or form. Some people enjoy listening to music while:

Some even enjoy music on its own, not only as something to pass the time and listen to while doing something unpleasant or boring. In fact, music is not only something beautiful to listen to, but actually develops a different part of the brain than any other activity. Honestly, I cannot think of one person I know that doesn't enjoy music in some way or another. All my friends and acquaintances play or have played a musical instrument, were part of a choir or sang elsewhere, do or did some type of dance or theatre classes or at least enjoy listening to music during their free time. Music is essential because it is so different from anything else that surrounds us. Nothing can convey an emotion or an idea in a similar way. That's why it is so amazing. The following are quotes about music that truly show its importance and essentiality.

  1. After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music -Aldous Huxley
  2. If music be the food of love, play on;
Give me excess of it, that, surfeiting,
The appetite may sicken, and so die.
That strain again! it had a dying fall:
O, it came o'er my ear like the sweet sound
That breathes upon a bank of violets,
    Stealing and giving odour!
    -William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616), "Twelfth Night", Act 1 scene 1
  3. Great music is that which penetrates the ear with facility and leaves the memory with difficulty. Magical music never leaves the memory.
    -Sir Thomas Beecham
  4. Music should strike fire from the heart of man, and bring tears from the eyes of woman.-Ludwig Van Beethoven
  5. Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent. - Victor Hugo
  6. It's easy to play any musical instrument: all you have to do is touch the right key at the right time and the instrument will play itself. -J.S. Bach
  7. Man,the world's a bringdown. If we play loud enough, maybe we can drown it out. -Jimi Hendrix
