Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in Salzburg, Austria on January
27th, 1756. His parents were Leopold Mozart and Anna Maria Pertl.
Leopold was a composer, violinist and assisstant concert master at the
Salzburg court.Mozart began writing minuets at the young age of five
and symphonies at the age of nine. At six years of age, Mozart and his
sister Maria Anna went on numerous concert tours accross Europe's courts
and major cities. Both Mozart and his sister played piano but Mozart
was also an amazing violinist. The children played at court in Vienna,
as well as in Germany, Paris, at court in Versailles and in London. In
the latter region, Mozart was befriended by Johann Christian Bach, who
influenced Mozart's music deeply. |
Throughout his life, Mozart travelled many places and composed many
famous pieces of work. In 1782, the now quite well known Mozart married
Constanze Weber from Germany.Mozart's greatest success was "The Marriage
of Figaro" in 1786.The fame and fortune Mozart had acquired began to dwindle
after Figaro. Many members of the court and nobility became quite anxious about
Mozart's revolutionary ideas as demonstrated in Figaro. Mozart's social
status dropped and he fell into debt. Mozart continued composing until 1791
when his health began to decline and he became ill. He died on December 5th, 1791, and it was falsely rumoured that he died of poisoning. However, his
death is thought to have resulted from a kidney failure. He was buried
in an unmarked grave at the cemetery of Saint Marx. |
Mozart excelled in every form of music he composed.Although other composers of his time didn't understand his work and aristocratic
audiences couldn't appreciate its complexity and depth, it is still
appreciated by many musicians and other music lovers.
