Theme Hospital by Bullfrog is a hospital-based simulation with a comedy twist. The graphics are very nicely done. This is a level based game where you complete levels you move onto another level that is more difficult. What is nice in this game if works well for novice, intermediate, and advanced games. You choose the skill level you would like and then start the game.
In Theme Hospital you manage every aspect of a hospital such as hiring staff, firing staff, training staff, doing research, handling epidemics, set medical procedure prices, keep your hospital running in the green, keeping the inspector happy, build rooms, repair equipment, and keep the hospital clean. This is also a twist on some levels you have earthquakes you have to deal with that can damage equipment and kill patients. Make sure you have enough handy man and doctors to run your hospital and keep your queue lines within reason. A patient leaving the hospital means no revenue for you. When you are search for a little comedy relief Theme Hospital is a welcome addition to a playing library.
Theme Park by Bullfrog was my first Bullfrog game and my first comedy relief game back in 1995. This is a DOS game and the first time I played it my sound card did not support the game. I later learned with a new computer the game actually talked.
Theme Park your object is to build a theme park, keep your customers happy, research new rides, build rides, keep rides in good order, order stock, and keep the money flowing into the park. Sound easy, well let me tell you there are some things like workers going on strike, thugs beating up your entertainers, and your competition trying to take you over. This is one complex game and needs to be run on a slower computer such as a Pentium 100 or a computer you are able to slow down game play. On a 233 the game go so fast it is unplayable. The graphics are good for the time frame, sound is good, and there are some elements of the game such as viewing a ride like you were there makes this game stand out.
Tropico by Pop Tart Software is a 2001 game that later offered an expansion pack called Tropico Paradise Island Trouble in Paradise and developed by Breakaway games in 2002. This is a simulation game where you are a dictator on a Caribbean island and you control every aspect of island life and in the most part is a people simulation program where you feed, house, entertain, provide services, and jobs while building an economy to support yourself and your people. The games allows for freestyle play, offers a tutorial, and offer missions to play and you can build your own missions also. You decide how you are going to rule such as being a good dictator while looking out for your people and maybe stashing a little something into your swiss bank account. Choose to be a hard dictator by keeping wages low, keeping your people in poverty, provide very few houses to keep your people living in shacks and socking away all you can in your swiss bank account. Of course you can also play somewhere in between too, there are many ways to play and you can try different strategies to come up with a winning combination.
After you manage your people you also have to deal with elections, economy, and in the expansion pack the weather and random events too. The expansion pack offers more building options, new missions, and more options then in the original game. One of the things the expansion pack builds on is tourist and the tourist industry.
This game will play well on a K6-2 AMD 500 computer with a 32 MB video card and while the graphics may be dated some by the new games out of the market game play is endless as there are many ways to manage your island and win missions along the way making this game and good value for the money spent.
