Building Simulations listed are games where you build. Some of these games are focused on economic simulations, strategy based, or mission based scenario's. ![]() 1503 AD The New World aka 1503 ANNO by Sunflower Games is a 2003 Ancient city building game. 1503 ANNO is a sequel to 1602 ANNO, which the later I have not played so no comparison will be made to the original. The game starts out with a historical story giving you a background on the game you will be playing and from there you are taken to the main screen. You can choose a tutorial to familiarized yourself with the game and start out with a ship a few supplies and a brand new island to explore and to build upon. Using this tutorial will teach you the gain basics and what you need to provide your citizens to keep your colony growing via the aid of the on-line help system. After your colony reaches a certain size, then the on-line help systems ceases and you are own your own to expand your colony, explore some islands, setup trade routes etc... Once having the tutorial out of the way you can choose to play from a variety of scenarios varying from very easy to very difficult with specifics goals required from completing them. Other option to choose versus the scenarios is to play in campaign mode were you start out with a narrative story are given goals to achieve and once you achieve these goals a new level is unlocked and the story continues on. When you start out on an island not all available build options will be available to you, as you must expand your colony to unlock additional build mode options. You will also find not all island provide all the resources you need to make your colony grow and so it is required that you explore other islands to get the resources you need. You can find other populated islands where you can set up and trade with them which is also a good way of making a little money and acquiring the items you need for your own colony. You can also find and explore islands that offer resources such a fertile farm land, minerals, wood, etc. and setup production and ship the goods back to your own island for use. Another option is to build on islands that are already populated, some of the island owners will gladly share with you while others might declare war on you, and so having a ready and mobile military built prior to building on occupied territory might be a good idea. This game deploys three ways of game play, one play it peaceful and co-exist with your neighbors, two play as a god and take over everything be the means of war, and three by using peace and war for achieving your goals. This is more of an open ended game, allowing a variety of game play and strategies used in combination to reach goals. There is a lot more to this game and depending on the path you choose scenario versus campaign will depend on the management of your colonies, military options, and resources available. ![]() Caesar III by Sierra is a city building game that allows you to play peaceful missions or military missions. I would have to say this is my most favorite game and I have played both peaceful and military missions all the way through. The editor allows you to make your own cities, and there is plenty of playing options for playing single games. The graphics are terrific and the sound is nicely done. You zone your land, feed your people, use the land resources in making products for export, or for selling to your citizens. Set up trade routes, provide Caesar what he needs, and keep unwanted troublemakers out of your city. In this game you must balance wealth. If you have to many wealthy you will not have enough employment. If you have too much employment you have riots because your workers do not have enough jobs to go around. As your city grows you will provide education, entertainment, and health provisions. These provisions allow for your city to grow. Timing is everything in this game. Expand to quickly and you will go in the red. Caesar does not like bailing you out and you lose favor when he does. Expand to slowly and you will not meet your objectives. ![]() Constructor by Acclaim gives you the opportunity to deal with real life as your build places for your tenants to live. You deal the complaints, property damage, your work crew, building resources, research, and your city inspectors. Each game has its own objectives to meet so you can start out with the easy games and once you get the hang of it go for more advanced games. The graphics and sounds are very nicely done. What I like about this game is the chance to change the language and is especially good for someone learning a foreign language. Play in a different language and learn new words and phrases all while having a good time playing a game. This is what drew me to the game initially and the twist of playing with multiple players or playing against a computer can be very challenging. Even the city tells you what you may and may not do with you property, sound a little like real life? Check this game out and be in control for a change. ![]() Industry Giant by I-magic is a detailed transportation, goods, and retail game. The focus on transportation is through trucks, planes, and trains. You make the goods buy shipping in resources and then distribute the goods to your stores. This game has very nice graphics and sound and offers scenarios to play and win. Industry Giant is a lot like Capitalism but in a smaller portion with more emphasis on transportation. You have competitors to compete against and the terrain can be very challenging to over come. Expand to slow, you take of chance of your competitor taking you over. If you expand too fast, you take the chance of going bankrupt. Choose the right products, right city, good price, efficient transportation, and you will in turn receive some pretty impressive profits to expand you growing empire. As the year's role off events takes place that can make and break you. If you have enough capital you can weather these slumps or capitalize on them by changing your factory to produce the product that buyers favor. Mob's Rule by Acclaim gives you the opportunity to deal with real life and build places for your tenants to live. You deal just like in constructor complaints, property damage, your work crew, building resources, research, and your boss. What makes this game a little different is you are a gangster and must compete against rival gangsters for territory. Your boss will outline your objectives, meet them and everything goes well, make a mistake you might find yourself swimming with the fishes. The graphics and sounds are very nicely done. The game play is smooth, you can skip the tutorial and go right to the harder action as each level gets harder with more objectives. The game play is short, there is no sandbox or free for all mode, so once you complete the game, you might want to put it away for a few months then play it again. ![]() Mob's Rule by Acclaim gives you the opportunity to deal with real life and build places for your tenants to live.
