Spotlight Acoustic Club 1997-2003
Spotlight To Close
Spotlight Acoustic Club is to close at the end of October 2003. The pub wants more money behind the bar so is deciding to pull the plug on our Monday night club due to us having quite low audience numbers some weeks. Also affected are Wednesdays and two Saturdays a month. All of these will become "STUDENT NIGHTS". You see, money is much more important to these big pub chains than individuality, self expression and sheer talent. There are three more Spotlights to go. Details are below.
What I tried to do with Spotlight was to not only offer an open mic environment for new singer-songwriters with something to say but to also book the best quality acts in the World. Where else in Oxford could you see the likes of Dave Sharp, Colvin Quarmby, TV Smith, Attila The Stockbroker, John Otway, Leon Rosselson, Robb Johnson and The Casey Neill Trio for less than I fiver?
I hope all of my performers and audience find alternative venues. Other places of note are the Catweazle Club, The Delicious Music Nights and the Skittle Alley Tuesday nights at Port Mahon in St Clements.
So, sorry to all those performers who have contacted me asking for gigs. I have been inundated with requests recently so apologies if I have not got back to you all.
Thank you to all the songwriters, musicians, comedians, poets, characters and audience members who have supported the club over the past six and a half years.
This site will remain active as my homepage and a history of the club will probably be posted at some point.
There is now a condolence page HERE where you can read some of the tributes that have come in.
The last three Spotlight nights will have the following special guests:
All performers will have open mic slots preceding them. £3.50
