True Bypass Mod
What the hell is true bypass first of all? Well, most pedals these
days use a buffer circuit to run the signal through the circuit but
just cancels out the effect. That is the simplest way of describing
it (to learn more, Google 'bypass' or 'true bypass'). True bypass is
a way to get around this by getting rid of the buffer and linking the
cable that goes into the effect to the one that goes out (again, this
is my basic understanding of it). There are a few 'tone freaks' who
will only use true bypass pedals as according to them 'they provide
the purest tone'. What a load of old bollocks. Buffers can be just as
good if not better then TB pedals and stop tone loss in my
experiences. A boss pedal with a decent buffer doesn't seem to change
the tone very much at all when it is bypassed if at all.
That said, Boss pedals have good buffers most wah pedals do not. To
do this mod you will need:
Soldering iron
Wire
DPDT or 3PDT push button switch (you will need 3PDT if you are
putting in an LED, which will be comming in a guide soon!)
Step one: Remove buffer components
To remove the buffer and get true bypass you will need to remove
these components:

Step two: Wire the switch
De-solder the current switch and take it out. You can put the
new one in and fix it to the wah in order to keep it steady. There
are two ways you can wire this up, I use the ground from the circuit
rather than from the pot, but it is personal preference. You can wire
to lug one from the black wire on the pot if you like, it is easier
to wire it from the circuit in my opinion.

The other wires come from the pot and the circuit board clip.
Here is a picture of how I wired it:

Step three: finishing touches
Adjust the new switch so it is the correct distance from the wah so
that you have to push down to turn the wah on and off. You may also
want to adjust the pot range by loosening the screw just above the
circuit board clip and move the pinion gear to your liking. You can
test the true bypass by taking the battery/power supply from the wah
and seeing if the signal goes through the wah when it is turned
off.
