Wah pedals. Mysterious things aren't they? Ever since the days of the
first Clyde McCoy wah pedals, guitarists have searched desperately to
get the 'perfect' wah tone. Lucky for you, help is at hand! My name
is William Thorpe and I have spent the last few years trawling around
the good old internet searching for ways to get a better wah tone.
You can skip the bits where I went wrong and get a good tone without
all the hassle!
For this project, I used a Jim Dunlop GCB-95 wah pedal as they are
cheap and easy to get hold of. I'll admit, I was taken in by the
'Oooh its a crybaby, they must be the best!' as many newbie guitar
players would be, but even if your a pro, these can be swapped,
chopped and changed to sound pretty decent! The clips I have made all
come in 3's. Clean/Overdrive/Distortion. To keep things fair, I did
all the clips with the Neck Pickup of my 05 American Strat, going
into my Marshall DSL 401, then into a Shure SM57 microphone placed in
the center of the speaker cone running into my M-Audio Firewire Solo
into Audacity, in case you were interested. There will be a gear page
soon in case your interested.
I went backwards with this project, I started modifying then thought
that this would be a good idea to do, so I modified the wah back to
standard except the true bypass modification, which I simply could
not be arsed to do. Fair enough?
Lets get started then shall we?
