About the Brighton Area Schools Band Program

The Brighton Area School Band Program consists of the bands at Maltby Middle School, Scranton Middle School, and Brighton High School (BHS). Over the years each component of the Brighton Band Program has been privileged with great success. The Scranton Middle School Bands have a similar, although slightly longer, history as the Maltby Bands. The BHS bands have done many of the same things however have distinguished themselves through outstanding performances at festivals across the country. The BHS Marching Band, the "Marching 200," has also performed in many places including the Holland Tulip Festival, the Hudson's and Detroit Free Press Detroit Thanksgiving Parades, the Detroit St. Patrick's Day Parade and at the Magic Kingdom of Disney World in Orlando, FL. In 1992 the Marching 200 performed for President Bush at the Palace of Auburn Hills. The BHS Wind Ensembles frequently go on tours performing across the region. At New Year's 2004 the BHS bands performed at the invitation of the Mayor of London at their parades and New Year's celebrations.

Students are eligible for participation in the Brighton High School Bands following the successful completion of eighth grade band with their director's approval. Auditions may be necessary based on instrumentation.
