About the Maltby Middle School Bands

Former Maltby Band Students can be found not only participating in the award winning Brighton High School bands but have also performed in such renowned music programs at many major universities including: Michigan State University, University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Duquense University (Pittsburgh), Central Michigan University, Eastern Michigan University, Western Michigan University, Northwestern University, and Purdue University, just to name a few. One former student is also the principal flute of the Atlanta (GA) Wind Symphony.

Each Maltby Band meets daily throughout the school year. The beginning level of band instruction in Brighton is sixth grade.

Student Activities

Maltby Middle School is a member of the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association. Through this membership the students are able to participate in many activities such as solo and ensemble festival, district band festival and state band festival. The eighth grade band can also earn the opportunity to participate in an independent music company's festival in conjunction with a trip to Cedar Point Amusement Park in May. This trip is at the discretion of the director.
