[01c01] A Quest for Home

Mathiu's quest will take you to Koku [05a08] in search of a Headquarters for the Rebels. Go Southwest from Seika to find it. In the tavern is a woman named Camille, who is looking for Gremio. She is one of the recruits you have to have join you to continue the story. When she joins you, Tai Ho, on the basement level of the tavern, will talk with you. In order to use his boat to get to the castle in the middle of Lake Toran [05b10], you need to beat him in a dice game. As soon as you beat him, Tai Ho and his brother-in-law, Yam Koo, will go outside to prepare their boat. To continue the story, simply go out to the dock and talk to them. They will take you to the castle.

At the castle, Tai Ho decides to join your party. You will be able to leave the castle by boat if you choose, without losing Tai Ho. However, you do need to go into the castle to continue the story. There are thre hard-to-reach, or hidden, treasure chests. The first is in the first room and requires you to hug the west wall to get to it. Along your way, you will encounter a Journeyman Crystal.

There are two chests near the end of the castle path which are supposedly impossible to get to. If you do miss any of the chests, you will not be able to get back to them after fighting the Boss... ever, so if you want to get them all, be careful about going too far beyond the screen which pops up with the expression "The Castle of Toran". Of the two chests that are nearly impossible to reach, the South one is shrouded by fog and a secret tunnel just below the West entrance is hidden by that fog. It is a bit difficult to navigate, but don't give up. Basically, in the fog, go South, the East a bit, then South, then West a tad and you should reach the chest.

The other one can be reached by going to the NE corner of the room and going through the 'wall' to the East. It leads to the next screen and the chest. There is also one outside the castle, so be sure to explore all doors, if your goal is all of the treasure.

Once you've reached the Castle Title screen, you will have no random monsters for two stairwells (and no further save points, though you are free to go back to the Journeyman Crystal after collecting what you wish).

The Zombie Dragon [03c] boss battle will ensue. In fact, after defeated, he will sometimes give you a Lightning Crystal, but not always. If you saved before fighting, you may want to simply reset to do the fight over again, if you wish to get the rune he gives out.

You are then given the opportunity to name your newly acquired castle. You have up to eight spaces to use, or you can take one of their suggestions:

Dragon Castle
White Castle
(Tir) Castle

A fade to black happens and when the picture returns, everyone will be collected ina room, including Mathiu and Tai Ho. Leknaat appears and graces you with two gifts: the Stone Tablet of Promise [02a] and her apprentice, Luc. Mathiu will decide you should recruit an old friend of his named Lepant, and another fade to black will happen.

[01c02] Sword of Kirinji

Upon continuing, Gremio tells you to talk with Mathiu, who is in a room to your East. Mathiu gives you information about Lepant, who lives in Kouan [05a09] to the Southwest. Viktor, Cleo, and Gremio immediately join you and Mathiu will let you put two more people in your party. You are then free to wander the world by sailing and walking, collecting supplies and allies as you go. (Once Marie is recruited, talk to her three times, though you don't need to stay at the Inn three times. This way she'll mention a cook she needs, and allow you to recruit another person.)

To continue the story, when you are ready, you need to head Southwest to Kouan. In town, go to the large Northwest house and talk to Giovanni, the butler. You will be refused admittance. Go to the Inn to speak to a creepy guy named Krin, who will tell you that he knows how to get you in to see Lepant. You have a choice:

*Tell me what you have in mind.
{Ask for Krin's help}
I can't trust you.{Refuse Krin's help as the game comes to a stand still}

Krin tells you to sneak in and steal Lepant's sword to get him to talk to you. It's unfortunately the only plan available, so you need to follow him to Lepant's House [05b11] and climb the rope. Inside the house, you will need to follow the ladders and hallways until you get to a room with many robot dolls standing around it. To get to the other side, simply avoid letting them see you. It sounds easier than it is, but as they stay still, you'll soon be able to figure it out. If not, see my Contacts Page [00a]. If you get caught, you are simply thrown out of the room and have to repeat it all, but that can take time.

Once through the door, you follow a hallway to a big Wheel-of-Fortune. In order to get to the other side, you need to have the right space come up, so you must keep getting on the wheel to try for the right space. Once over the wheel, you can follow the hall and take Kirinji, the sword. The wheel takes you automatically back to the front of the room without having to try for luck. When you leave the house, Krin will bring you to the Inn and offer you some special tea. This time, none of you fall for it, instead tying the thief up.

Lepant shows up, demanding his sword, and you are given a choice:

Lepant sympathizes, but says he can't help and wants his sword. You have a choice:

We need your help.{Ask him again as the game goes into a loop until you choose the other answer}
*I understand. We'll return your sword.
{Return his sword}

Giovanni comes in and tells Lepant that his wife, Eileen, has been kidnapped by Commander Kraze!

[01c03] Confrontations

Go to the very Northern house, Commander Kraze's house [05b12], in town and watch Lepant fight a bunch of soldiers. Follow him inside s he igves a repeat performance. To continue the story, follow Lepant (though you now have the opportunity to do other things). He will join you, kicking out a member of your party if you have six people already. You will fight soldiers. Go upstairs and go inside the rooms. The East room holds Commander Kraze and Eileen.

Kraze will call for help then scream for Pahn when you win the fight against the soldiers. Pahn will come in and protect Eileen. You are given a choice:

*!*You're the one person I can't forgive.
{You'll kill Kraze}
*!*Get the hell out of here.
{You show mercy}

If you kill him, no big loss in this one case. If you let him go, he will not reappear (though future decisions to kill people may effect the story greatly). You can now talk to Lepant and Eileen to get them to join (or the game comes to a stand still). If you talk to Pahn, h will ask to join the Rebels. You get a choice:

I can't forgive you.{Refuse him, get two more chances, then the game comes to a stand still}
*Pahn, lend us a hand.
{Let Pahn join you and continue the game}

To continue the story, you should go back to the castle when ready. On the first floor, you will meet up with Sydonia and Varkas from Mount Seifu. They want to join the Rebels, as well. Someone suggests a feast (to which Camille will become outraged since Gremio already owes her money, but Viktor will fob her off). You are given a choice:

*Let's do it.
{Agree to party with the others}
*Now wait a...
{Try to stop them, but Viktor does it anyway}

The screen will shift to a table (in the future Blacksmith Hall or War Room). Outside of the room, you will be attacked by an Assassin [03c] without chance of saving first (unless you did so before meeting Varkas and Sydonia).

Once you've defeated him, the others will belatedly come to your rescue. A fade to black happens, then you see Pahn and Gremio arguing about protecting you. The screen fades again as you walk towards your bed.
