Runes are basically magic for the Suikoden Game Genre. In order to cast spells, you must have a rune equipped and must have remaining magic points. The magic spell points are listed below the character's name and often looks something along these lines: 5/4/2/1/0. The numbers seen are the spells remaining, and the only way to get spells back is to rest at an inn. If your character goes up a level and would normally get more spell points, these spell points will not show up until you've rested at an inn.

Some runes, when used together, become more powerful. For basis of this, hgiher level runes (such as Rage instead of Fire) act just like the lower level rune of the same type. Runes which, when used simultaneously, cast a fifth level spell:
