TECHNOLOGY/PRODUCT:
Transporter Prototype for peatland -
MALTRAK
|
COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE
- The peat soil surface is usually uneven and contains
undecomposed wood and soft spots which are obstacles and bogging
traps for conventional wheeled tractors. MALTRAK is fitted with metal tracks that
reduce its ground contact pressure to less than 1 kgf/cm2 and is more
suitable in the existing peat conditions.

PERFORMANCE
MALTRAK can carry up to 1000 kg load on established peat
with water table level more than 30 cm below the
soil surface.
It can travel up to 15 kph (unladen).
A workrate of 2-3 h/ha for land cultivation was
recorded.
It can cross field drains of up to 40 cm without
bridges.
|
TECHNOLOGY STATUS
- The design of MALTRAK was adopted by
Howard Alatpertanian to produce their SERBATREK
transporter in 1987. By December 1990, about 70 units
were sold
and used mainly for oil palm fresh fruit collection.
- The commercial version of MALTRAK complete with
Power-Take-Off and three-point-linkage has not been produced yet.
