Mobility tests on MALTRAK and WUZER W16D4 transporter

ABSTRAK
The high cost of labour and chemical (fertilizer and
pesticide), coupled with an acute shortage of agricultural workers
in the plantation sector, had made mechanisation necessary. The
present study on the functional and mobility testing of two
available transporters MALTRAK and WUZER WI6D4 were geared toward
obtaining the necessary information on the machines for machinery
selection purposes. From the results of the straight line speed
tests on laterite and on peat soil and from theoretical analyses
of the motion resistances to the ground drive systems, it was
noted that the ground condition on which the machine will be used
and the design features of the ground drive system are important
factors to consider in the selection of a suitable transporter.
The other tests carried out included the turning circle tests, the
centre of gravity tests and the repetitive pass tests. Based on
the test results, it was concluded that MALTRAK had a better
overall performance than WUZER WI6D4 and was also better designed
for use under existing plantation field conditions.

Mekanisasi diperlukan untuk mengatasi masalah kekurangan
pekerja ladang di estet dan masalah kos-kos upah pekerja dan bahan
kimia yang tinggi. Kajian terhadap jentera angkut MALTRAK dan
WUZER W16D4 telah dijalankan dengan tujuan mendapatkan matlumat-
matlumat yang diperlukan bagi pemilihan jentera. Dari ujian
kelajuan yang dijalankan atas tanah liat dan gambut dan dari
analisis teori dalam aspek penentangan gerakan pemutaran roda,
didapati keadaan tanah dan rekabentuk roda (dan roda-rantai)
adalah faktor-faktor yang perlu dipertimbangkan dalam proses
pemilihan jentera angkut yang sesuai. Ujian-ujian lain yang telah
dijalankan termasuk ujian pusing, ujian `centre of gravity' dan
ujian lalu berkali-kali. Daripada hasil ujian-ujian tersebut,
didapati prestasi MALTRAK pada keseluruhannya adalah lebih baik
daripada prestasi WUZER. Rekaan MALTRAK juga didapati lebih
sesuai untuk kegunaan dalam keadaan tanah yang terdapat di estet.
