Rotary tillage cost on peat soil

  • The total owning and operating cost (RM/ha) of MALTRAK fitted with a 1.8 m rotary cultivator implement, in soil tillage depends on the annual use of the machinery, the total purchase price of the machinery and the field capacity of the machinery.
  • The field capacity of MALTRAK in peat soil tillage vary from 0.2 to 0.6 ha/h, depending on the depth of cultivation, the bearing capacity of the peat soil, and the degree of weed infestation.
  • The cost of rotary tillage of MALTRAK on peat soil based on a field capacity of 0.4 ha/h is as shown in the FIGURE below. A contract charge of RM100.00/ha is included in the graph for comparison.



ASSUMPTIONS

The following assumptions are made in the economic analysis :
  • The interest rate is 10% per annum
  • The life of machinery is 10 years
  • Tax, insurance and shelter cost is 3% of Purchase Price per annum.
  • Straight line depreciation
  • Repair & maintenance cost is 6% of Purchase Price per 100 hours.
  • Salvage value is 10% of Purchase Price.
  • Fuel cost = RM0.50/L
  • Fuel consumption is 4.8 L/h.
  • Lubricating oil, greases etc. = 20% fuel cost.
  • Labour cost = RM6.00/h
