| FENG YUN: THE STORY |
| This was a time and a place where martial arts was the key to domination and kingly success and those skilled in martial arts could live in a world separate from the common man. Feng Yun can be called a typical Chinese revenge/destiny-type story, but the characters, plot and fantasy elements of it gives it a special twist....This summary mixes the comic/movie/tv series plots a little, but gives the general idea of the story. |

| Xiong Ba is the leader of a martial arts men pai (martial arts school/clan) called Tian Xia Hui (literally 'Under Heaven' school/clan) with his eye set on dominating the martial arts world. He consults a famous man by the name of Ni Pu Sa (Mud Buddah) who can foretell the future. Ni Pu Sa gives Xiong Ba a line of poetry which represents the fate of the first half of his life. Translated, the poem read: "The golden fish will not be contained in a pond; once it meets wind and cloud it will become a dragon." In other words, if Xiong Ba can find and recruit two boys, one with Feng (Wind) in his name and one with Yun (Cloud) in his name, together they will allow Xiong Ba to conquer all. |
| Eventually, these two boys found their way into Tian Xia Hui and the service of Xiong Ba. Bu Jing Yun, the foster son of Huo Bu Tian, was forceably taken from his foster family after they were slaughtered by Xiong Ba's people. Nie Feng, the son of the retired martial artist Nie Ren Wang, was found by Xiong Ba after the boy's father was killed during a duel by a legendary fire beast: the Fire Qi Lin. (A qi lin is a mythical Chinese creature that is part dragon, part horse; see Other Characters for more details.) Jing Yun and Feng will grow up to fulfill their destinies as the Feng and Yun that was fortold in the prophecy. |
| Xiong Ba split his Tian Xia Hui into three divisions of martial arts: Frost, Wind and Cloud. His three top disciples each led one of the three catagories: the 'oldest' disciple being Chin Shuang (Chin Frost), Bu Jing Yun as the middle and Nie Feng as the 'youngest.' *Disciples are ranked not neccessarily by age, but by a first-come-first-serve basis and merit. |
| However, when Jing Yun was first forced to join Tian Xia Hui, his entire foster family was massacred before his eyes by Xiong Ba's people. Jing Yun swore to avenge his foster family. For the time being, he complied with Xiong Ba's orders, waiting until the day he could defeat his shi fu (martial arts master/teacher). |
| The turning point of the story arrives when it comes time for Ni Pu Sa to reveal the rest of Xiong Ba's fate. The news is bad: the very two people who led Xiong Ba to victory will be the ones to cause his fall: Nie Feng and Bu Jing Yun. Xiong Ba then sets out to defy his fate; he splits the bond between his three best disciples and then plots to destroy Feng and Jing Yun. Bu Jing Yun and Nie Feng must, through hardships, misunderstandings and many conflicts, come together and work in harmony to oppose their own master. |

| The original saga of Feng Yun continues far past this point, but this is where the comics, tv series and the movie go their separate ways. The movie 'The Stormriders' ends with the conflict with Xiong Ba, while the tv series goes on but changes the plot. In the series, Bu Jing Yun and Nie Feng must unite once again to defeat another would-be dominator, this time an invader from Japan. Many other characters enter and leave the story. But no matter which version of Feng Yun is enjoyed, it remains an entertaining and exciting epic tale of adventure, friendship and fantastic martial arts, well worth the time to read/see it. |

| Each was taught a special skill: Chin Suang the "Heaven Frost Fist," Bu Jing Yun the "Strike Cloud Palm" and Nie Feng the "Wind Spirit Kick." Together, Jing Yun and Feng, along with Chin Shuang, fought for Xiong Ba and with their help, Xiong Ba became the master of the martial arts world. |
