Brief Biography
Nie Feng, 22, was the son of the 'Wild Saber of the North,' as his father Nie Ren Wang was known. His mother left his father for another man; her departure caused Nie Feng's father to go crazy. During a duel with another man atop a huge Buddah statue, a foretold beast, the Huo Qui Lin (Fire Qi Lin) emerged from a cave and killed Nie Feng's father. Nie Ren Wang's legendary saber was pulled with him into the cave and lost. With his mother gone and his father dead, Nie Feng would later became the 'youngest' of the three of Xoing Ba's three major disciples (Suang, Yun, Feng, ranked in that order. However, Jing Yun and Feng would later far supass their elder brother in martial arts). Later he would also become the most powerful of the three.

The young Nie Feng, for the time being holding his father's saber in front of the Buddah statue. A legend went that if the water at the Buddah's feet rose to cover the knees, a fire beast would emerge from a cave called the Lin Yun Cave, and emerge it did, right in the middle of Nie Ren Wang's duel. Nie Feng's father was killed by the Fire Qi Lin, and the saber would be lost in the cave dwelling of the beast. Later, Nie Feng would rediscover it.
Character Traits
Nie Feng is a generally soft-spoken, gentle person; even as a child he hated to see his father kill, once trying in vain to stop him from slaughtering a mother tiger and her cubs. Feng can be dreamy and seemingly naive at times, but will also mercilessly kill when he sees the need to. However, he rarely ever harms anyone needlessly, and is also sensitive and forgiving, even of enemies. Like Bu Jing Yun, Nie Feng also had two loves; the first was brief, with a woman named Ming Yue (Bright Moon). The major love of his life caused Feng much worry, heartache and joy: the mysterious Meng (Dream) later known as Di Er Meng (2nd Dream), who helped him in a time of need. Yet what frustrated Feng was that he never saw her face and only communicated with her with letters flown by pigeons. Later he would seek her out. His strong point is also his weakest; Xiong Ba took advantage of Nie Feng's kind and loyal personality to help break apart the bond between Feng and Jing Yun. Feng has generations of history with the Huo Qi Lin, the fire beast that killed his father; many of his forefathers had tried to kill it. They had even tried to forge a master weapon to kill it with. (See Bu Jing Yun: weapon) Because of a freak accident many years ago, some of the Huo Qi Lin's blood flows in Nie Feng himself. This "mad" blood, in times of great stress, can cause Feng to lose control of himself and go into a maniac killing spree. Later in the story, because of Feng's unselfishness and willingness to sacrifice himself for the good of the cause, he willingly loses his human nature in order to learn a rare and powerful form of gong fu that he and Jing Yun hoped to use against the enemy.

Xue ("Shyue") snow Yin ("Yin") drinking Dao ("Daoh") saber
Nie Feng's weapon is the Xue Yin Dao (roughly translated, the "Snow-drinking Saber"). This saber was his father's and was lost in the cave of the Huo Chi Lin (Fire Qi Lin) when Nie Feng was still a boy. Later, Nie Feng would return to the cave and recover his father's lost saber. The saber is blue; it has the property of sucking in and blocking fire and heat energy.
BACK to STORYLINE
Nie Feng has long, flowing hair past his shoulders, sometimes shown as slightly brownish in color. He often wears a long blue or white outer robe, although it is easier to recognize him by his hair rather than his garb. In the comics, Nie Feng lost an eye when saving Jing Yun in a battle and so wears an eyepatch. However, he does not have an eyepatch in the movie or tv series.
