OPERA IN REVIEW
The same combination of Slavic and Germanic techniques, used by Rubinstein's followers, is characteristic of the Czech composers Bedrich Smetana and Antonin Dvorak. Of the fourteen stage works by these two men only Smetana's sparkling "Prodana nevesta", written in 1866, has made its way outside Czechoslovakia. Recently the works of Leos Janacek (1854-1928) have begun to find receptive audiences in Europe and America.
