NOTES FROM MEETING: MAY 23, 2002 AT THE HOME OF RUTH SCHIBI
Meeting ran about One and a Half hours;
Sandy Ransom and Dawn LaGassie chaired the meeting.
Guest Speaker was George Brier, Business Agent for Teamsters Local 677

Sandy reviewed discussions from previous meeting( see notes from 3/19/02) and provided us with an update on:
 Hartland Safety issues, which appear to be resolved to the satisfaction of everyone.
 Oak St. being made one way.progress is being made and it is hoped this will be a reality for next school year.
 Air Conditioning for all Type II vans, but particularly for the Windsor Special Needs Van. This effort has hit a snag, primarily due to Laidlaw's unwillingness to except responsibility for the welfare of the students they transport.

George spoke on many issues confronting our group and updated us on the Teamsters at the national level. He informed us that we would not be charged with the five cent per hour surcharge that is being imposed on other members, because we work so few hours.

It was also good to hear, although it is still in the planning stages, that the national body is seriously considering having a Bus Driver Division.

He will try to get information from California local regarding the health insurance package they received as part of their new contract and how the payroll deduction will be handled.

This is a concern of ours because Laidlaw has said they would not be able to handle the deductions for us if we should decide to sign up for Aflac insurance.

Under new business, Dotie Cote suggested that we:

1. Seek to insure that our pay rate is never less than that of other school bus drivers within a 100 mile radius of our terminal.
2. Use local cable channel 13 to air our concerns and to bring them to the attention of the public.
3. Safety Meeting child carepossible to use a room at the school?

As a group we gave our hostess flowers as a small token of our appreciation of her. The next meeting was scheduled for June 5th at the same location.
