Tire Info

Ok This section is for you noobs who dont know how to tell tire sizes and when you look at the sidewall, u dunno wtf anything means!! as confusing as it may seem, it's actually very simple...here, let me explain:

IE: 185/60HR14...what does this mean? wel 185 means the width. this is measured in MM. so what does the 60 mean? 60 is the aspect ratio...meaning how tall the sidewall is in relation to the width of the tire. thus 60 means 60% of 185....therefore the sidewall height is 60% of 185mm. well what does R14 mean? haha...14 means the size of the wheel in inches. it's a 14inch wheel...thus the tire is designed to fit on 14inch wheels only. what is "HR"? that is the speed rating. it means "H Rated" which is good to 119mph if i recall correctly.

Tread wear...what is it? tread wear is how long the tire will last...basically. the higher the tread wear figure, the longer the tire will last but at the same time, the harder the compound. race tires are usually 50-80 tread wear...all seasons are above 400 and summer tires are 350 and under.

My opinion on 4 seasons

ok so 4 season tires are supposed to be good in the wet, good in the cold, good in the heat, good in the snow and just something u can wear all year around right? NO! all seasons is the best of all worlds right? NO!

Let me tell you, 4 seasons is the worst in the wet, worst in the cold, worst in the heat, worst in the everything! it is the worst of all worlds! tire manufacturers just made a tire...dubbed it as "4 season" and sells it to the consumer market because they know it will sell. this is not to say that there was absolutely no engineering effort put into these tires because i must say that there is! 4 seasons in the snow are more safe than summer tires in the snow. but 4 seasons compared to anything sucks in the element they were designed for. there is no possible way to manufacture a true "all season" tire because there is no tire that can be good at everything. tell me, what kind of good tire can last long(500+ tread wear), have amazing grip in the summer, not slip on ice and have wicked traction in the rain? no tire...only in your wet dreams buddy.

Low profile sidewalls

Low profile sidewalls look kool and give a stiff ride...but these make the car more unforgiving at the limits and might be a tad bit too twitchy for some to control. if using say a civic or corolla at the track, i recommend u stay with the following tried and true sizes...there's no sense going any larger than i have mentioned since the car is so small:
185/60R14
185/55R14
195/55R14
195/50R15
195/45R15
205/50R15

there is really no reason to go up to a 16 inch or so on our cars, the sidewalls will be way too thin and tires will be too costly.
