Wetlands are regulated, correct? Check out how regulations did and didn't work for the Klydel Wetland. Read the studies by federal experts concerning the Klydel Wetland and compare their conclusions to a wetland permit application. In response to that permit application, over 800 individuals and organizations wrote to the US Army Corps of Engineers to request denial of a wetland permit and to express support of preservation of this unique wetland. The permit was withdrawn and the property in question is now a nature preserve.
An appeal was made to the NYS Freshwater Wetlands Appeals Board. Here are some thoughts about the NYSDEC and that appeal. Fortunately, the time that it took for the appeal to run its course allowed preservation groups to attain funding to buy the wetland.
