09 / 20 / 02   Neil Smith, former New York Rangers' GM, has been brought on as consultant to Penguins' Craig Patrick.

09 / 12 / 02   Straka won't require back surgery for now.  Any season-ending operations had been delayed in hopes of
                     healing; an MRI on Thursday showed some mending, and no ligament problems

09 / 25 / 02   Alexei kovalev has rejected the Pen's second contract proposal.

09 / 27 / 02   Kevin Stevens, former left winger, will be joining the Pen's broadcast team, working with Hall of Famer
                     Mike Lange.  Stevens is slated for commentary on six pre-season and five regular season games.

10 / 05 / 02   Rick Berry, acquired in the Colorado Kasparaitis deal, having been left unprotected, has been claimed by
                    the Washington Capitals with the sixth and final draft pick.
                    The Pens have inked a one year, $700,000 deal for Alexandre Daigle.

10 / 21 / 02                     A magnificent week for Mario - leading the league with 11 points, Lemieux has been named
                                      the NHL Player of the Week.  This is the twenty fourth time the Hall of Famer Pen has been
                                      so named, second only to Wayne Gretzky, with forty four nods.  The Pittsburgh captain was
                                      also honoured today with the Maurice Richard Award, given annually to Quebec's top athlete.
                                     Additionally, Mario now has his own namesake trophy  - a minor league scoring award.

  11 / 06 / 02   Continuing a string of recognition, Mario has been named the NHL's Player of the Month for October.
                     Lemieux, receiving the award for the fourteenth time, leads the league in scoring.  He has racked up
                     6 goals and 17 assists last month alone,  and can claim points on 23 of the Pens' 35 goals.
