Wed. June 20, 2001 Pens fans rejoice !!! The 2001 Pre-Season Schedule has been released and there is now only three months till the next hockey game !! Sat Sept 15 Boston @ Wilkes-Barre 7:00 pm Sun Sept 16 New Jersey @ Wilkes-Barre 5:00 pm Tue Sept 18 Atlanta @ Atlanta 7:30 pm FRI SEPT 21 TORONTO @ TORONTO 7:30 pm Sat Sept 22 W-B/S @ Wilkes-Barre 7:00 pm Mon Sept 24 Atlanta @ Pittsburgh 7:30 pm Thu Sept 27 New Jersey @ Albany 7:00 pm Sat Sept 29 Columbus @ Pittsburgh 7:30 pm Sun Sept 30 Columbus @ Columbus 5:00 pm CRAIG PATRICK, General Manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins since December 1989, has been signed on for five more years. During his 11 1/2 seasons, the Pens have advanced to eleven consecutive play-offs, claimed five divisional trophies, one President's Trophy and back-to-back Stanley Cups in 1991 / 92. It's easy to understand why Mario considered re-signing the newly named Hall of Famer their ".. number one priority this off-season". |
Sat. June 23, 2001 Rumours are flying fast and furious - now it appears that though Jagr may be held on to for a while longer, Kasparaitis and Morozov may soon be on their way out. Alexei's agent Jay Grossman confirmed that he'd talked to GM Patrick, and that the situation was "..not good". The 6'1" center, a frequent healthy scratch this season, has requested a trade. Brother-in-law to Morozov's wife, Darius Kasparaitis may also be leaving Pittsburgh. Frequently rumoured as trade bait, the latest speculation is that the Phoenix Coyotes are interested in acquiring the 5'11" defenseman. Controversial throughout the league, #11 is nonetheless always among the most popular of players with Pens fans and will be sorely missed if he does indeed go this time. 2001 ENTRY DRAFT Perhaps with Jagr's imminent departure in mind, the Pens brought aboard 19 yr old Colby Armstrong with the 21st overall pick. A Memorial Cup winner with the Red Deer Rebels, the 6' 2" 180 lb right winger had accumulated 36 G, 42 A, 156 PIM and a +44 rating in 72 games. The Saskatoon native had been NHL Central Scouting's eighth ranked North American prospect. |
