| Wed. June 13, 2001 Mario Lemieux, stating "It's probably time for a change", reports that the Pens will be listening to "... a lot of different offers ..." for Jaromir Jagr. Though there appears to be no imminent deal in place, it is expected that the five-time scoring champ may be traded even as soon as the entry draft, taking place the 23rd & 24th of this month. |
Thu. June 14, 2001 Craig Patrick, following his father and grandfather, will become the first third generation hall of famer. Patrick was named today as an inductee into the builders catagory. The NHL Awards were held tonite in Toronto, and it was a dissappointing event for Pens fans. Of course, we already knew that Jagr was to be the recipient of his fourth consecutive Art Ross, but the Hart Trophy for MVP went to Colorado's Joe Sakic, in addition to the Lady Byng and the Lester Pearson. Jagr was named however as a First Team All-Star (RW) , along with (G) Hasek, (LW) Patrik Elias, (C) Sakic, (D) Lidstrom and Bourque. NY Ranger Adam Graves was awarded the Bill Masterton Memorial, NJ Devil John Madden the Selke and the Calder Memorial rookie of the year was Evgeni Nabokov of theSan Jose Sharks. Avalanche L W Shjon Podein received the King Clancy for his humanitarian efforts and Pavel Bure, as the league's top goal scorer again won the "Rocket" Richard Trophy. Red Wing Nicklas Lidstrom became thefirst European ever to be rewarded for outstanding defense work with the Norris Trophy. Flyers' coach Bill Barber, during his acceptance speech for the Jack Adams award, set off a resounding chorus of booing when he remembered to thank GM Bob Clarke ... not at all a popular figure in Toronto. And finally, Dominik Hasek, taking home both netminding trophies, the Vezina ( outstanding goalkeeping ) and the Jennings ( lowest goals against average ) couldn't help but remark, " I open the papers and I read I can't stop the puck anymore, and now I'm here ". |
