The
group's main purpose of existence is to collect large volume (250 liters) seawater
samples in a range of depths - from 10 meters to the ocean bottom (~5500m) using
the model N12-1000 large volume water sampler. To the right are pictures of
how people gather all their strength to move the 1 ton sampler. Ha! Of course
they enjoy the help of those all-powerful mechanical winches.
Now
the hard part comes in transferring all those seawater to your own 250 liter
buckets. They use pumps. The pictures show Nagai-sensei with his beloved samples
already in those sturdy buckets. Yehey!
