I came to Japan to train as a marine geochemist, which entails long periods of time off the world's oceans and seas. With the opportunity to take part in research cruises on the R/V Hakuho-Maru, I have been to the Pacific and Indian and the Antarctic Oceans (the Southern Sea, actually) and the following seas: Sulu Sea, South China Sea, Andaman Sea, Bay of Bengal, Okhotsk Sea of Russia, the Japan Sea and the Malacca Straits.

These are the research cruises I have participated in:

Leo Minor Expedition: Sept. 27 to Oct. 21, 1994; to the Japan and Izu-Ogasawara Trenches.

Piscis Austrinus Expedition: Dec. 19, 1996 to Feb. 18, 1997; to the Eastern Indian Ocean and its adjacent seas.

Canis Minor Expedition: Jul. 15, 1998 to Aug. 14, 1998; to the Western North Pacific, the Okhotsk Sea, and the Japan Sea.
