Nine Lives and Second Chances Rescue, established in 2007, is a nonprofit (not officially yet though!) organization that works to reduce the number of dogs and cats in unfortunate situations (shelters, abuse, neglect, etc) in West Michigan by a number of different ways:
Spay and neuter programs
Finding good homes for people who cannot keep their pets
Fostering animals from shelters
Community education
When we are taking in animals we are a no kill rescue run completely on donations. We work to find the best home for an animal and do the best we can to make sure they are in a home that can take care of them as well as we do. Nine Lives and Second Chances Rescue (known previously as BRD Dog Rescue), founded in the spring of 2007, started off just helping dogs when the owner got fed up with the number of unsterilized cats in her neighborhood. Since we started we have done two large fundraisers and from other things such as can drives we have made around $1000 that has gone completely back to the animals. To date we have sterilized around 20 cats, which may not seem like a lot but the number is growing quickly! We also donated $400 to the building fund for our friends at the Ionia Animal Shelter who desperetely need a new facility!
