Money!
Speaking of money, it is a good idea to choose someone at home that you can give signing power or power of attorney to in regards to your accounts (i.e. bank accounts, any loans, credit cards, etc.). This is essential to keep your payments up-to-date and to monitor your account balances. Remember, time does not stop just because you are travelling, and as the bank machines in Europe do not give you updated balances, it is easy to be fooled as to how little or how much money you are spending--don't run out of money and not know it!
A customer service representative or teller at your bank can give you all the information you'd need and more...
Important Stuff....
It is a good idea to keep photocopies of your passport, travellers cheques, credit cards, birth certificate and other important documents both at home and with you in your luggage. This will be infinitely useful should one of these things go missing. As well, keep a small stash of money seperate from your main stash--this will also be useful if you are ever in need!
