What College Looks Like This Christmas!

The holidays at Howell generally inspire bad jokes about the "Howell-idays"... and this year was no exception! House residents decided that one of the best ways to procrastinate spread the holiday cheer was to purchase a tree the likes of which the House (and the House's traditional tree stand!) had never seen before! Tommy and Charlotte ventured forth into the first real snowfall to tree-shop, and found one at the very last lot on Bath Road that was actually the size of Tommy's car. (And was really more like a shrub than a tree, come to think of it...) Much coaxing and anchoring was required to get it home, whereupon more coaxing and anchoring was needed to get the tree to stand up in the undersized tree stand! After - how many topplings was it, guys? Six? Nine? - we got the tree to stay, Res Life and the Brunswick Fire Department told us to take the fire-hazardous abomination down! But we figured since we're the only House to which Res Life and/or the Fire Department are not called on a regular basis, we could get away with it...

We had the affiliates over to decorate the tree!

Kathleen had to instruct Charlotte on the proper use of tinsel,
a decoration she had never experienced before!
Zach helped demonstrate the technique...

Liam could only stick around for awhile, as the tree decorating was
the same night at the Junior-Senior Ball (yes, TKA friends, that's a J.S.B!)
And doesn't he look great? Or maybe possessed?

Common Holiday Activities at Howell!

Ping-Pong!

Howell - the only House where "pong" actually means what
most people in the world think it means.

Eating!

Charlotte's mom sent a huge box of Christmas cookies!
And look how attractive she is, munching on that cookie...

Seeing Tommy's Skin!

These are perhaps the two most flattering portraits of a House resident
in the entire history of the House system. Perhaps.

Yankee Swap / White Elephant / Pollyanna / Insert Regional Term Here!
Whatever you call it, it's a lot of crazy and occasionally embarrassing fun!

House residents and affiliates alike showed up to participate in this
activity of questionable merit and unquestionable hilarity!

Christine was the first to pick a gift - she received a nicely-wrapped copy of "The Jewish Woman's Book of Wisdom!"

Craig, last year's House secretary, picked out a lovely gift
from the pile - a Christmas-themed negligee set from Wal-Mart!
Former House president Ana helps him try it on...

But wait! Ana STEALS the negligee set from Craig at her turn!
Where will it go next?

Hmm, yeah, we were hoping it wouldn't go here. House members took up separate
spontaneous collections to bribe Tommy either to steal or not steal the negligee set! ("Please, Tommy, no!!")
He had to model the accompanying velour G-string to be sure, but he ultimately
decided to let Ana keep the Santa nightie. (Good choice, Tommy!)

Other attractive gifts included... a block of cheese!

Jacob opened a lovely accessories set and couldn't find
anyone to take it from him! But why would he want to give it up..?

Sam and Charlotte modeled the new additions to Jake's wardrobe!
Note the attractive pearl jewelry and sequined pillbox yarmulke!

Charlotte ended up with Elliott's firehat... we think he
had a fire hat because he's JUST SO HOT!

While most of us are going to exchange gifts after break in January,
Jemima and Charlotte couldn't wait to give theirs to Graham!
Charlotte's work on the right is a study of stress in primary colors, and
Jemima's work on the left features stress in the form of Graham's sculpture project and chemistry homework!
Their joint "modern art" collaboration at center required the most time and energy, of course.
