Gunmen holdup vehicles near Silchar

Aizawl Oct 04:In the early hours of Friday morning, armed men, numbering 6, stopped upcoming and down-going vehicles near Dholai, a hamlet between Vairengte and Silchar, taking money from drivers at gunpoint.

According to police reports, at about 2 am in the morning Friday, 6 men, carrying firearms and dressed in camouflage uniforms, stopped a tanker and a Tata 407 mini truck coming towards Aizawl near Dholai on the Silchar side and a truck going towards Silchar and took money from the drivers of these vehicles.

Reports said a total of Rs 11,000 was taken by the armed men, Rs 9000 from the driver of the mini truck and Rs 2000 from the driver of the fuel tanker.

It, however, is not known whether any money was taken from the truck going towards Silchar.

The police said these men may be residents of Dholai village according to reports given by the driver of the mini truck.

Suspected HPC (D) kidnap 3 non-tribals

Aizawl Oct 04: In a kidnapping case suspected to have been perpetrated by the Hmar People's Convention (D), a faction of the HPC who were unhappy with the HPC accord, three non-tribals have been abducted on October 3 at around 7:30 pm from the villages of Jamalpur and Kulicherra in Cachar District.

According to the Mizoram police, the abductors released one of the abducted, Monir Uddin, soon after the abduction with a ransom note.

The ransom note demnaded Rs 10 lakhs for the release of their hostages.

The abductors are reported to be around 20 in number having guns and wearing olive green uniforms.

MSACS gives AIDS awareness to VCs

Aizawl Oct 04: The Mizoram State AIDS Control Society today organised another AIDS awareness training at the Aizawl Civil Hospital auditorium, this time to Village Council members.

The training today was organised at a district level and members of Village Councils fom Aizawl district were invited to this training.

However, members from the city VCs were not included today as this training had already been imparted to them.

The resource persons today streesed the need for awareness in rural areas as the habit of drugs abuse had spread even to far-flung corners of the state.

The MSACS have organised such trainings at state level at Lawngtlai, Saiha, Lunglei and Champhai districts.

With Aizawl district covered today, only Kolasib and Mamit districts need to be covered now.

Synod Revival Crusade 2002 commences

Aizawl Oct 4: The Synod Revival Crusade 2002 have commenced today at Phullen, Sakawrdai, Rawpuichhip, North Vanlaiphai and Lunglei Venglai.

The theme of the revival is "The church - helper of God".

The speakers for the revival are Revd C Vanlalhruaia at Sakawrdai, Revd R Lalnuntluanga at Lunglei, Revd Dr Vanlalchhuanawma at Rawpuichhip, Revd Dr H Vanlalauva at Phullen and Elder R Zatalia at North Vanlaiphai.

Scouts & Guides perform community work

Aizawl Oct 04: Mizoram Scouts & Guides movement members, under the leadership of their Chief Commissioner J Lalhmingliana, collected rubbish and other wastes in the city Friday morning in continuance of the Cleanliness Week inaugurated on Tuesday.

The drive today was taken up to promote sanitation to the public and was organised jointly the state Bharat Scouts and Guides and the LAD Sanitation Wing.

Around 200 scouts and guides came out for the community work today.
