Stalls at intended Millennium Centre to be available for booking

Aizawl Oct 02:The Millennium Centre, formerly known as Hawla�s Stadium, is currently being prepared for the continuation of construction by a construction company from outside the state who will begin the construction on a commission basis.

Around 450 stalls will be available for renting out which will be open for booking in advance soon.

Offering incentive for these early bookings, the Mizoram government have announced a 5% rebate with a first come first served basis on the location of the stall within the Centre.

According to the plans drawn up by the government, the Millennium Centre will have, apart from the 450 stalls, banquet halls, restaurants, health clubs and swimming pools.

Also included in the plans are 4 escalators and 2 capsule lifts inside the complex, as well a PCOs and internet parlours.

The Centre will be managed by a semi-government authority called Millennium Centre Authority.

The government is expecting to be able start with the construction by January 2003 and the advance bookings for stalls will be available during this construction.

Hnahthial total bandh peaceful

Aizawl Oct 01: The total bandh organised by the Joint Action Committee of Hanhthial town in damnd of a district headquarters status today passed off without any untoward incident.

According to reports from Hnahthial, Chief Minister Zoramthanga had promised to elevate them to a district status thrice in public speeches which have been recorded both in the audio and video formats.

In another total bandh which also passed off peacefully, the MZP Kolasib branch called off the bandh today at 3 pm due to the good compliance by the public. In this regard, it had been erroneously reported yesterday that the Kolasib MZP had called off its bandh as its demand of opening of the State Institute of Rural Development office had been met.

Reports however said the SIRD office have been occupied by its director and staff.

Chief Secretary praises SSS Union

Aizawl Oct 01: Mizoram Chief Secretary H V Lalringa priased the members of the Students Self Support Union for their efforts in trying to attain self sufficiency and their non-involvement in politics.

Attending the 17th general assembly of the Students Self Support Union at Vanapa Hall today, the chief secretary said, "I am proud of the way you have tried to provide for yourselves while studying. You are following the correct path and should never involve yourselves in politics and other such activities which are contradictory to your association's aims and objectives."

Urging the students not to depend on others for their livelihood, Lalringa told them to give emphasis to manual labour and independence. "What we have is what we work for," he said.

Warning them that unemployment will be on the raise, the chief secretary urged the students to give more thoughts to their career and to have a wider outlook.

The assembly today awarded those students considered to have done excellently in providing for themselvesduring 2001- 02. The students given this award were B Lalhualvela, Class XI of Modern H/S, JC Thanga, Class XII of KM HSS and Rodingliana Ralte, II yr BA of Hrangbana College.

Blood Donation Day observed

Aizawl Oct 01:The National Blood Donation Day was observed today under the aegis of the Association for Voluntary Blood Donation, Aizawl at a fuunction at the Aizawl Civil Hospital.

F Malsawma, Health minister, who attended this function said Mizoram had always been among the best implementors of any central health programme and we should make efforts to remain so and to be the leader in this area in view of our status as an educated state and of our being a Christian state.

Speaking on the usefulness of blood donations, the minister said giving blood is not harmful to the giver, rather it is harmful for the receiver oweing to the many diseases that could be contracted from contaminated blood.

Talking of the blood donation programme in the state, the minister said, "In view of the fact that there are no proper records, the actual number of blood given through donations cannot be ascertained. However, it is my belief that the willingness shown by the Mizo people in donating blood, we have surpassed the Cente�s target of 40% of blood through donors."
