Cleanliness Week commences on Gandhi Jayanti
Aizawl Oct 02:The state-wide Cleanliness Week commenced today on Gandhi's birthday with the Young Mizo Association taking the main part in cleaning each locality in the city, towns and villages.
Inaugural meetings on the government level was held in all district headquarters, sub-divisional headquarters as well as in the city.
The inaugural function of the Cleanliness Week in the city was organised by the Local Administration Department at the Aijal Club this morning with the Chief Secretary gracing the function as the chief guest.
"Cleanliness which can be perceived through the eyes is a symbol of development and the desire for cleanliness comes from the desire to keep things neat and tidy," the chief secretary said.
Chief Secretary HV Lalringa urged the people to follow the path of cleanliness and said the Mizos must make a name for themselves in the area of cleanliness. To do this, however, will take a lot of hard work, Lalringa urged.
Speaking further, the chief secretary said more than outside cleanliness, what was important was cleanliness of the inside. "What we need is cleanliness of the heart, cleanliness in politics and the church," he said.
On the occassion of the Mahatma's birthday today, ministers and officials placed flowers on the statue of Gandhi at Zodin Square.
Among the ministers were Aichhinga, R Tlanghmingthanga, K Thangzualla and Rinchhana. Among the officials were DGP M Tumsanga, Chief Secretary H V Lalringa and Wg Cmdr J Lalhmingliana, Sports & Youth Services.
